Opiate Treatment Program
Opiate addiction doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Relief from the daily struggle of maintaining an opiate addiction is being found every day at Morningside Recovery. Treatment for opiate addiction at Morningside Recovery involves changing deeply imbedded behaviors, which empowers clients to break free from the deadly grip of opiates. Addicts themselves are often dumbfounded by their own continued use despite severe losses, adverse consequences, and the threat of more damage. The despair and distress as well as the need to understand addiction as broken or impaired choosing is apparent when a client first admits to Morningside. “I got to the point where I knew I was lying to myself every day, but I couldn’t stop. I never thought I could get like that, totally controlled by a drug. I would wake and tell myself that I wouldn’t get loaded. But an hour later I always found an excuse to pop some pills.”
At Morningside, the suffering of addiction is alleviated by guiding clients through a customized treatment plan. Treatment plans are tailored to address each client’s abuse patterns and related medical, psychiatric, and social problems. Our residential treatment setting creates a peaceful, healing environment designed to incorporate healthy activities into each day. Clients can awake to meditate amid the glow of a sunrise by the ocean. Clients frequently enjoy group activities at the beach, and every week the staff leads clients on a variety of fun activities. These activities are a mix of fun diversions, and specific recreational opportunities that also serve therapeutic ends.
Morningside’s clinical staff recognizes that opiate abuse and mood disorders often co-occur. In some cases, mental disorders may precede addiction; in other cases, opiate abuse may trigger or exacerbate the disorder, particularly in individuals with specific vulnerabilities. Morningside Recovery’s clinical team assesses the comprehensive profile of each client when deciding if supportive medication may necessary for a client. If medication is psychiatrically indicated, a client’s age, gender, and body chemistry are considered when selecting a medication. Some clients may respond better to one than another. With this in mind, the clinical team formulates an individualized treatment plan that takes into account the effect of medication. All prescription medication dispensed at Morningside is supervised by consulting psychiatrists and psychologists with decades of experience in behavioral healthcare. Moreover, medications can enhance the effectiveness of behavioral therapies and help keep clients stable enough to remain in early treatment.
As clients progress through treatment, they find themselves modifying their attitudes and behaviors related to opiate abuse. By taking advantage of all Morningside has to offer, clients can handle stressful circumstances and environmental cues that used to trigger relapse, and move on towards the life they were supposed to live. “I was dating this guy and he always had dope. I found myself still dating him just for the drugs. I was disgusted with myself. I don’t see that happening ever again.”
